Which One Do You Actually Need?

Four different jobs get called "resizing" in everyday speech, and picking the wrong tool is why so many images come back wrong. If you know the pixel size you want, use the Image Resizer. If you want to keep part of the picture and throw the rest away, that is cropping, not resizing, and it belongs in Crop Image. If a form has given you a weight limit rather than a pixel size, use Resize Image to KB. Resizing Is Not Cropping, and Neither One Is Compression

Resizing keeps the whole picture and changes how many pixels describe it. Cropping keeps the pixel density and throws part of the picture away. Compression keeps both the pixels and the framing and spends fewer bytes describing them. All three make a file smaller, but only one of them is right for any given problem. If your dimensions are already correct and the file is simply too heavy, you do not want this category at all: go to image compression, or straight to a fixed target such as compress to 100 KB. If the format is the problem rather than the size, the image converters handle that instead.

Working on a government or exam form? Those usually state three things at once: a pixel size, a file size in KB, and sometimes a DPI. Do them in that order. Why Image Size, Shape and DPI Get Confused

Four separate properties of an image get bundled together under the word "size", and almost every rejected upload comes from mixing them up. Dimensions are how many pixels wide and tall the image is. File size is how many kilobytes it occupies, which depends on the dimensions and on how hard it was compressed. Aspect ratio is the shape those dimensions make, independent of how many pixels there are. DPI is a printing instruction stored in the metadata that has no effect on any of the other three. A 16:9 image can be 1280 x 720 or 3840 x 2160, at 72 or 300 DPI, at 40 KB or 4 MB, and all eight combinations are perfectly normal.

Knowing which one a requirement is talking about tells you which tool to open. "Must be 200 x 230 pixels" is dimensions, so that is the Image Resizer. "Must be under 50 KB" is file size with no dimension constraint, so that is Resize Image to KB. "Must be a square photo" is aspect ratio, so settle it in the Aspect Ratio Calculator and then crop with Crop Image. "Must be 300 DPI" is metadata, so it is the DPI Changer and nothing else needs to change. When a form states both a pixel size and a KB limit, the pixel size wins and the weight comes off through compression, because that is the only method that leaves dimensions alone.

File size falls roughly with the pixel count, so halving both width and height leaves about a quarter of the pixels and a much smaller file. That is exactly how Resize Image to KB reaches a target.
