Four Tools for Reading and Removing Image Metadata

Three of them read. One of them removes. Which you want depends on whether you are trying to learn something about a file or trying to stop a file telling somebody else something.

Metadata is not the picture

Nothing in this group changes how your photo looks. Metadata is a separate record travelling inside the same file, and reading it or deleting it leaves every pixel exactly where it was. That is the line between this group and the rest of the image tools: if you want the picture itself to change, you want the resize and DPI group, the compression tools, or the format converters.

Read it, or remove it

Start with Image Info if you do not know what the file is. Go straight to the EXIF viewer if you already know it is a photo and you want the camera and location data.

Reading DPI is not changing DPI

The DPI checker tells you what the resolution tag currently says and how big the photo prints at that setting. It writes nothing. If the tag is wrong for the print you want, the DPI changer sets it. Neither one adds a single pixel: raising DPI makes the print smaller, not sharper, and anything promising otherwise is quietly selling you a resize. When you actually need more pixels, that is the image resizer.

Reading metadata and removing it are also two jobs, not one. The EXIF viewer shows you what a photo is carrying. The EXIF remover takes it out, and then re-reads the finished file with the viewer's own parser to prove nothing was left behind. Doing it in that order is worth the extra thirty seconds, because it is the difference between hoping a file is clean and knowing it is.

The privacy problem is the location, not the camera model

Nobody is harmed by knowing which phone took a picture. The field that matters is GPS, because a phone records the coordinates to a handful of metres, which on a photo taken at home is your front door. Marketplace listings, rental adverts and community posts are the everyday cases where that gets shared without anyone meaning to. Check first with the EXIF viewer, then clear it with the EXIF remover.

The print problem is a number nobody set on purpose

Most files carry 72 in the resolution field simply because that is what the encoder wrote when nobody chose anything. A print shop reads that number and produces something enormous and soft. The DPI checker shows what the tag says, what the photo actually prints at on A4 or a 4 by 6, and whether the JPEG is holding two values that contradict each other. Fixing the tag afterwards is the DPI changer, and if the photo genuinely lacks pixels it is the image resizer you need instead.

Government forms care about all of it at once

An exam or visa upload usually specifies dimensions, a file size ceiling and sometimes a DPI figure. Image info answers the first, the DPI checker answers the third, and the presets in the government photo tools handle all three at once for a passport photo, a PAN card photo or an Aadhaar photo. Once the page has loaded, the tools keep working with no network connection at all.
Because something removed it before the file reached you. WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and X all strip metadata during upload, and a screenshot never had any, since the operating system drew it rather than a camera capturing it. An empty result is the most common outcome in this group, and the tools explain the likely reason instead of leaving you with a blank panel.
Not with the remover here. It strips metadata by rewriting the file container and copying the compressed image data across untouched, so the pixels come out byte for byte identical to the original. Most online metadata removers redraw the picture onto a canvas instead, which re-encodes it and quietly costs you quality. Nothing in this group re-encodes anything.
No, and any tool claiming otherwise is overselling. Removing the record deletes what the file says about itself. Whatever is visible in the picture is still visible: faces, street signs, a screen, a document, a number plate. Forensic analysis can also narrow down a camera model from compression tables and sensor noise. Check the picture, not just the file.
The DPI Checker only reads. It reports what the resolution tag says, shows the print size that follows from it, and flags the case where a JPEG holds two different values that disagree. To actually set the tag, use the DPI Changer in the resize and DPI group. Neither tool adds pixels: raising the DPI figure makes the print smaller, never sharper.
Not on its own. The device writes those fields and anyone with the right software can edit them afterwards, including with the remover on this site. Dates come from the camera's own clock, which is frequently wrong. Treat consistent metadata as weak supporting evidence, and treat missing metadata as no evidence at all, because almost every editor rewrites part of the block on save.
JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, HEIC, HEIF and AVIF all carry metadata and are read in full. GIF and BMP are recognised too, but neither format has an EXIF container, so the result says the format cannot store it rather than reporting it as stripped. The format is detected from the file's first bytes, so a PNG saved with a .jpg name is still handled correctly.
All four are free with no account, no watermark and no daily cap. The practical limit is your device's memory rather than a server quota, and files up to 100 MB each are comfortable. Large files are read in small slices rather than loaded whole, so a 90 MB scan answers about as quickly as a phone snapshot does.
